skipAIR - The Thought

This blog is a tool for logging the development cycle of a newly named project: skipAIR. Like most things tech, the name is based in concept more so than reality.

As my brother put it:
I envision a stone that skips across the atmosphere, sort of kind’ve, from here to there.

In short, the product prototype will display a given social network's online "buddy images" or "buddy icons" in some application. The catch will be that these images will be displayed on a portable or placed device that has web access (wireless or hardwired) and controlled through a web service of some type.

So far the Nokia N770 Internet Tablet has been chosen as the visual display device. This choice is mostly due to its low cost, stable portable Linux OS distribution (2006), and built in web functionality.

We plan to use the Maemo open source SDK for the display device while most likely using a .NET C# solution for the managing application.

This idea was prompted by a post on Gizmodo that seemed to beg for a real solution. So, here we go.
